Cards printed in the player's second season. Much less valuable than Rookies.
Serial Number
Example: 145/299. Authenticates the limited scarcity of the card.
Set Registry
A leaderboard where collectors compete to have the highest verified GPA (Grade Point Average) for a specific set.
SGC
Sportscard Guaranty Corporation. Known for "Tuxedo" holders and fast turnaround times.
Shill Bidding
The illegal practice of a seller bidding on their own auction to drive up the price.
Short Print (SP)
A card printed in lower quantities than the rest of the set, often unannounced.
Slab
The hard plastic case a graded card is sealed in.
Snow
White flaky print defects ("flecking") seen on dark backgrounds.
Soft Sleeve

Spidering
Creases in the surface of a card that look like spider webs, usually on the back.
Sports Card
A trading card featuring an athlete or sporting event. The primary asset class of the hobby (Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey).
Subgrades
Individual scores for Centering, Corners, Edges, and Surface. Used by BGS and CGC.
Superfractor
Topps' legendary 1/1 gold spiral finish parallel.
Surface
The condition of the card face. Scratches, dimples, print lines, and stains affect this grade.
Surface Pitting
Microscopic holes in the chrome surface of a card, a common flaw in cards from 1993-2005.
